HOME RENOVATIONS

If you are planning a home renovation, make sure you call your AIC Insurance agent and determine how these may impact your insurance. From Travelers Insurance, here are 6 common renovations, and how they may affect your insurance.

1. Building A New Addition- This will likely increase the home’s replacement cost.

2. Building A Pool- There are liability issues here you will want to discuss. Do you build a new fence? Put locks on your existing fence gates?

3. Adding a Deck- Is this a second floor deck? If so, you may want to increase your liability coverage.

4. Renovating the Kitchen- In addition to increasing your home’s value, upgrades to plumbing and electrical may qualify you for credits.

5. Finishing the Basement – In addition to increasing your home’s value, you may need to look at adding a sump pump in case a water pipe breaks and floods the basement.

6. New Roof- Some insurers offer credits if you reinforce the roof or use stronger roofing materials.

As always, call AIC Insurance for any questions you might have about your homeowner’s policy. With offices in Moses Lake & Quincy, call us at (509)-764-4447.

These are all great things to think about. Sometimes we consider whether the value has changed, but not always the liability. Thanks for the info!
